For Mahlon's Eagle Project he built three Free Little Libraries in Suwanee town parks. Little Free Libraries are a global phenomenon. The small, front‐yard book exchanges number 36,000 around the world in 70 countries — from Iceland to Tasmania to Pakistan. Now, a new Little Free Library at (Playtown Suwanee, Suwanee Creek Park, Suwanee Community Gardens) will join the movement to share books, bring people together and create communities of readers. Come enjoy a day outside in one of our three beautiful Suwanee Parks, and make sure to grab a book out of one of his Free Little Libraries, sit down on a bench, and enjoy a beautiful day of reading.

Mahlan thinks free little libraries will help people want to read more, by having park specific books that will either occupy your child, give you recipes that you can use your garden vegetables for, or just pass some time on a park bench reading a story. Also, they provide a colorful and creative sparkle to each park they are in.

Mahlan earned 21merit badges and served as his troop's quartermaster.

TStoneEagleThomas Christopher Stone, age 17, son of Roberta and Tony Brown of Buford and Paul Stone, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout and was awarded the Eagle Scout Rank on February 18th, 2017. Thomas worked with beneficiary, Christian Library International (CLI) representative, Trish Cummings, on a plan to design and install bookshelves for CLI's warehouse space in Buford GA. This organization, headquartered in Raleigh, NC, distributes Christian media to prisoners in Georgia and throughout the country through their chaplains. Thomas and his family learned of CLI right after they moved their Georgia location to Buford, when their church, Sugar Hill Church, partnered with CLI in the Spring of 2016. After Thomas and his family helped paint the new space he asked to do more for them by building bookshelves. Their new space was void of any furnishings so the new addition would allow them to more efficiently coordinate the receipt, sorting, storage and distribution of said media. The design plan consisted of one 24' x 2' wall unit and two 4' x 8' units to stand perpendicular to the wall. Thomas with the help of 31 volunteers and 233 hours of work, transformed their new space.

Thomas, who attends Lanier High School graduating in May of 2017, plans to study Science and Engineering in his post-secondary education. Thomas is a member of Troop 1534, chartered by Sugar Hill United Methodist Church. He has earned 25 merit badges and has served as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Quartermaster Troop 1534 of Sugar Hill GA.

Seth Thomas Bielstein, age 17 of Lawrenceville, GA and son to Lisa Givens and William Bielstein has earned the rank of Eagle Scout on November 19, 2016. Seth is home schooled is a senior. The service project that Seth choose came about from doing volunteer work at The Hope Assisted Living Center in Dacula, Georgia. He had seen the need to enhance the lives of the residents by adding wheelchair accessible height planter boxes to the courtyards. The boxes are unique in that they were made from donated recycled wood pallets. It took all of the wood from one complete pallet to construct one complete planter box. The use of the recycled wood helped to preserve the environment and save money needed on the project also. There are four identical courtyards with a pergola located within each one, the planter boxes were placed at each of the four posts of those pergola's, 16 boxes, filled with colorful and vibrant plants. The residents enjoy their time outside tending to the plants in the boxes and hope to plant more flowers and vegetables as seasons change. Planting is great therapy for the elderly, it brings them hope, sense of accomplishment and enjoyment.

Seth is a member of Troop 595, chartered by VFW Post 5255 and has earned 40 merit badges. He has served his troop as Quarter Master, Assistant SPL and Senior Patrol Leader. Congratulations to Seth and thank you for his contribution to the community.
